About me.
Hi, I’m Katie.
Welcome to the Refinement Loft, where we believe in consistent refinement over perfection.
Through my journey as a mom and wife, I have been tried by the fire, and I’m sure you have too! As I share my story and learnings with you, I hope you will decide to connect and share your story with me. Our shared experiences weave us together and strengthen us as mothers and wives, deepening compassion, understanding, and most importantly, our faith. I’ll go first..
In June of 2013, as a newly postpartum (single) mom of 2, I sat across the couch from the public health nurse as she told me that I was flagged as ‘high-risk’, and that we needed a firm plan in place for how I was going to care for my children. I was co-parenting my son who had just turned three, and was single parenting my newborn who I couldn’t hold onto tightly enough, despite the circumstances of her arrival. Are there groceries in the fridge? How will you know if you reach the point where you can’t do this anymore? Who will you call on for help? How do you think you’re going to be able to care for these children under these circumstances, especially given the trauma? Just a few of the questions that she needed to report back on.

My Philosophies
Homeschooling
Homeschooling refines us as parents. It’s a beautiful process and refines us in ways that most other jobs simply could not, while building relationships that we crave.
Co-Parenting
Resources on this topic are slim, because it’s as complex as the two-hearts navigating the storm. I hope that it is an encouragement to know that you’re not the first one tried in this fire.
Homemaking
Homemaking is about nurturing the feeling of ‘home’, and intentionally caring for your family, even on the days when we fall short.

Working Full Time?
Homeschooling while being employed outside of the home is not easy, but it’s do-able!
For the last 5 years I have been working full time while homeschooling my daughter. While I’d love to step away from working and pour myself completely into our family, that’s not the reality for us right now.
If you want to homeschool your child(ren) but can’t quit your day job, I’m here to offer some encouragement for you as you brave the storm.
